Hamilton Flourishing Bill of Rights Student Essay Contest
Who is eligible: All HCS 8th Grade students
Winners: $300 Grand Prize Winner, $200 Runner Up, $100 Honorable Mention, & one $75 winner from each middle school
Prompt: Which of the Bill of Rights means the most to you and why? Cite information in the Bill of Rights to support your claim. (Entries are limited to 500 words or less)
Standard: 8.24 Describe the conflict between Federalists and Anti-Federalists over the ratification of the Constitution, including the protection of individual rights through the Bill of Rights and concern for states’ rights. (T.C.A. § 49-6-1028) (H, P, TCA)
Deadline to submit: November 8, 2019
How to submit: Submit handwritten or print copies of student answers, with their names on it, to Rachel Turner through the Pony
How winners will be selected: Student essays will be judged by a panel of local stakeholders, selected by Hamilton Flourishing. This panel will consider the following factors when selecting winners:
· The essay demonstrates a thorough understanding of the history of the Bill of Rights and its significance in the modern world.
· The argument in the essay is fully supported by citing the Bill of Rights document and making connections to the text.
· The essay utilizes appropriate grammar and (if handwritten) is legible.
Winners will be notified in December!
